I am Malik Awolumate, a final-year International Business Management student, and this module has been one of the most impactful parts of my degree. It has pushed me beyond theory and helped me develop real-world skills, confidence, and a professional mindset. Here are five things I genuinely like about my marketing consultant module.

1. It pushes me out of my comfort zone

This module has helped me become more confident by encouraging me to use social media professionally. Before this, I was not very active on platforms like LinkedIn or Instagram. However, this module has pushed me to post more, engage with others, and connect with students outside my course, especially those in international business and marketing.

As someone aiming to go into operations management and roles within logistics and operations, this experience has helped me understand the importance of networking and building relationships. It has also supported my development in leadership and team management, as well as improving my awareness of how communication plays a role in customer operations management. Overall, it has helped me become more confident, more social, and more visible in professional environments.

2. I explored a new skill – Vibe Coding

One of the most exciting things I learnt in this module is vibe coding. Before this, I had no experience with it, but now I can use it to bring ideas to life quickly and creatively.

Vibe coding has helped me think more innovatively, especially in areas like logistics and operations. It allows me to turn concepts into working ideas using digital tools, which is very useful in today’s fast-moving business environment. This skill gives me an advantage because it combines creativity, technology, and problem-solving.

3. Learning from guest speakers

The guest speakers in this module have been very inspiring and insightful. For example, Sara Simeone, founder of No-Code Lab AI, introduced us to new ways of thinking about innovation and technology, especially through vibe coding.

Amreen Aman Khan, a full-stack digital marketer, shared her journey from university to her current role, showing how skills like SEO, analytics, and continuous learning can lead to real career opportunities.

We also heard from Gina Hibbs, who works in social media strategy within the public sector. She explained how no two days are the same in her role, which gave me a real understanding of how dynamic marketing careers can be.

4. The lecturer’s way of teaching

Dr Monica Chauhan’s teaching has played a key role in improving my understanding and confidence, particularly as a student from an international business background adapting to marketing.

She ensures that every student stays on track while providing real-world insights and organising valuable guest speaker sessions. This has helped me connect my learning to areas such as operations management and customer operations management, where communication and strategy are essential. Her support has also contributed to my development in leadership and team management, allowing me to apply knowledge more confidently in practical situations.

Knowing that she was once a student at the same university also motivates me, as it shows that success is achievable through consistent effort and development.

5. The edge it gives me as an International Business student

This module gives me a strong competitive edge by combining marketing with my background in operations and business management. It has helped me understand how digital marketing, communication, and personal branding connect with business strategy.

By developing skills such as networking, content creation, and digital engagement, I am becoming more versatile and adaptable. This is important because employers today are not just looking for academic knowledge but also practical skills and real-world awareness.

Overall, this module is helping me become a more well-rounded professional, ready to apply both business and marketing knowledge in my future career.
